How to Address a Sprinkler Head Not Spraying
Updated on Oct. 10, 2025
Your sprinkler system may have problems over time. One problem is that a sprinkler head isn't spraying. If you have this problem with your system, the experts at Andy's Sprinkler, Drainage & Lighting may do the following to fix your sprinkler system.
1. Inspect the Sprinkler Head
We will check the sprinkler head to find out what is wrong. When we check a sprinkler head that isn't spraying, we look closely to find out what's wrong. We check the sprinkler head for any visible damage, such as cracks, breaks, or other signs of wear and tear that could be stopping it from working properly.
In addition, we check for any dirt or debris that might be blocking the nozzle and stopping the water from flowing. This could be anything from grass clippings and leaves to small rocks or stones that got stuck in the nozzle. We carefully remove any such obstructions we find to make sure the water flow is back to normal.
Furthermore, we examine the sprinkler head to see if there are any possible causes of the problem, like overgrown plants that might be blocking the sprinkler's path. We can find any underlying problems and fix them properly by taking a thorough approach to the inspection process. This will make sure that the sprinkler head is working properly and covering the area it's meant to cover with enough water correctly and providing adequate water coverage to the area it's designed to cover.
2. Clean the Sprinkler Head
When we find a dirty or clogged sprinkler head, we first take it out of the system very carefully. We might be able to clean the head while it's still connected to the system, depending on how bad the problem is. But if we need to, we'll take the head off to make sure it's cleaned well and properly.
We use a small brush to get rid of any dirt, debris, or buildup that might be blocking the nozzle on the sprinkler head. We clean with a light touch so that we don't hurt any of the sprinkler head's fragile parts. We also make sure that the nozzle opening is free of any debris so that the water can flow properly. We can make sure the sprinkler head keeps working right and covers the area it's supposed to by taking the time to clean and maintain it well.
3. Replace if Necessary
If we find that a sprinkler head is broken beyond repair, we will have to get a new one. First, we choose a replacement head that works with the current system and meets the required specifications, like the spray pattern, arc, and radius.
We carefully take off the broken head from the system after choosing the right replacement head. We make sure not to damage any of the parts around it. Next, we put the new head on and make sure it is in the right place so that it covers the right area.
Sometimes, just replacing one sprinkler head won't be enough to get the system back to full working order. If we find that several heads are broken or need to be replaced, we might have to do a bigger overhaul of the system to make sure it works right.
We can help make sure the sprinkler system covers the area it's supposed to by carefully choosing and installing replacement heads that work with the system.
4. Test the System
We will test the sprinkler system after we have made any necessary repairs or changes to make sure the problem is fixed. We might also do regular maintenance to stop problems from happening in the future.
