Get Your Sprinkler System Ready For Summer Vacation

Summer is upon us! Kids are getting out of school and you are looking forward to that family vacation that you have been planning for months. By preparing your sprinkler system for the hot days ahead, you can be stress-free without even thinking about your lawn enduring that eviscerating heat. You want to come home to that beautiful shade of leafy green – not brown crunchy grass!

Watering is the key!  Here are some great tips from one of our experts.

Step One:  Make sure your irrigation is working properly before you leave. Turn on your system and evaluate if everything seems to be working correctly. Are sprinkler heads blocked, shooting water up in the air, or creating puddles of water?   Do you see any leaks or does the water pressure seem low?  Anything out of the ordinary should be addressed now.

Step Two:  Plan ahead for when the days will start to become hotter and even end up in those triple digits. You want to schedule your system in preparation for those hot summer days. If you water your lawn midday during the peak of the heat, the lawn will not have time to absorb any of the water before it evaporates. Give your lawn some time to absorb the water during the day by scheduling the watering early morning or late evening. By planning ahead, you can travel without questioning if your lawn is still alive and well.

Step Three: Check to see if there are any areas that you believe might be applying water well, but still seem too dry.  If they do, then before you leave town, add some extra watering time to those areas or if an area seems to be overwatered don’t be afraid to subtract the amount of watering time to that area. Without proper watering, nothing will enable your lawn to survive the intense heat, especially when you are unable to monitor it every day.
